A "play day" inspired by this area’s regional movement to reconnect children to nature is now scheduled for October 27th 2007 at Sanborn County park and Youth Hostel – 1 PM to 5 PM with options to stay over at Sanborn Youth Hostel until Sunday morning for the first 39 participants with families.
The children and nature play day is an opportunity for families with children to get together to explore and enjoy nature in the natural environment of Sanborn County park (about 10 miles from San Jose and about 3 miles outside of Saratoga).
This day offers a great way for families to connect with other families who share an interest in their kids connecting with nature and provides an opportunity to exchange ideas on how to connect kids with nature in your own community.
In addition to the “play day” activities, the Sanborn Youth Hostel has been reserved for 39 participants of families or adults who wish to stay over Saturday evening. The evening will include a family style dinner for participants spending the evening, fun evening kid activities and some more formal discussions on ways to connect kids with nature.
We all experience and enjoy nature in different ways, and families each have traditions and methods that work for our families and our kids. This “play day” will hopefully accomplish a few goals including:
- Meeting other families who share the value of children connecting with nature to help you re-enforce your own families set of values and priorities.
- Talking to individuals and organizations who work to connect children in nature and to take home those ideas and share them with friends and your own community
- Your kids enjoying the time exploring the natural trails and frog pond of Sanborn park with you and other families
- Sharing your ideas to help foster this important children and nature movement for today’s un-connected children.

The day time “play day” is limited to the first 100 people and the overnight is limited to the 39 persons. We need to submit a reservation deposit for youth hostel over night stay soon, so please contact me if you are interested in the overnight soon to secure the entire youth hostel for this event.
The youth hostel cost for the overnight stay is $14 per adult and $7 per child. The play day may have a slight fee $4/Person to help pay for the youth hostel opened during the afternoon for the event. More information about the youth hostel can be found on-line at
